We have professional, knowledgeable dispatchers that have years of experience in the trucking industry and know how to treat a driver fairly and with respect for the job that they do. We know that quality home time is important to a driver and we work hard everyday to make sure our drivers get home and are proud to say they work for General Transport.

General Transport began as a freight brokerage company in Akron Ohio in 1984 and was started by a former driver. The company and Owner-Operator dry van fleet was established in 1988. As a family owned and operated company we service several Fortune 500 companies and manage to remain in touch with our drivers' needs.

We are looking for professional solo Owner-Operators and company drivers that live in the Ohio, Indiana, Georgia, Arkansas, Texas, and Tennessee area to pull dry vans in the Midwest Great Lakes region to the mid south – south areas.

• Steady year-round work with an average length of haul over 800 miles
• Well maintained trailers, with 70% air ride equipped
• Satisfactory DOT safety rating for the last 8 years
• Straight forward payroll system; weekly settlements
• Fuel cards, with rebates available from certain chains
• Use of our late model 48’ and 53’ X 102” Dry vans ( spring and air ride)
• Trailers are rent-free to Owner-Operators
• Approximately 2,500 to 3,000 miles per week. Out of home 2 – 8 days, average of 4 days out.
• A competitive rate of $.81 per loaded mile
• Deadhead pay of $.81 per mile on any deadhead over 50 miles
• Quarterly fuel taxes paid for by General Transport
• Fuel surcharges are paid depending on customer, rates vary depending on fuel prices.
• Weekly pay settlements, no hold back, direct deposit available
• $40 per stop for additional pick-ups and deliveries.
• Company paid cargo and liability insurance, Company paid permits
• Company provided door signs
• Use of Nationwide 2-way pager for $15 per month
• EFS fuel cards issued, only a $.95 service charge, 1 cent a gallon rebate on Flying J fuel purchases.
• 97% of our freight is “no Touch” to the driver (lumper pay available)
• No forced Dispatch
• Open-door Communication Policy. All drivesr treated fairly
• AFLAC supplemental health insurance available
• Yearly Safety bonuses, and $50 for no violations found during a DOT inspection
• You, as the Owner of the power unit, are responsible for the following:
  • Base plate, require at least 32 states
  • Bob-Tail/ Deadhead non-trucking Liability Insurance
  • Workers Comp Insurance (if anyone other than owner is driving the truck)
  • Pay all tolls and scale tickets
  • We have bobtail and physical damage insurance available to you from Great West Causality Co. The rate in $35.00 per month for $1 million in bobtail coverage. The rate on physical damage insurance is .3% of the value of the truck. (truck is valued at $60,000 X .3% = $180.00 per month.
